Medical Director Physician for Stroke Program

Qualifications: Active North Carolina Medical License and CaroMont Regional Medical Center Medical Staff membership in good standing. Specialty specific Board certification, employed by CaroMont Medical Group, and actively caring for patients. Prior formal leadership position(s) strongly preferred.

Required Competencies/Obligations:
  •  Provide verbal and/or written assessments on quality of care provided by the Stroke Program guidelines and provide constructive feedback when warranted.
  •  Assist with Certifications for The Joint Commission as needed and become part of the core team.
  • Assist and provide feedback for the implementation of tele-stroke.
  • Work with Stroke Steering Committee to establish guidelines for appropriateness of Stroke Care.
  • Handle issues with other physicians when orders or practices for Stroke Care may be inappropriate.
  • Review new modes of therapy and treatments for inclusion in services provided by the CaroMont Heath for the Stroke Population.
  • Support and back Stroke Coordinator, Managers, Directors and Neurology Medical Director regarding interactions with other providers/disciplines in regards to Stroke.
  • Provide continuing education and participate in ongoing education pertinent to the care of stroke patients, including suggesting topics for ongoing education for nurses, physicians, and midlevel practitioners.
  • Enforce practice and professional standards for Stroke Care.
  • Demonstrate behavior that supports the practice of Stroke Care.
  • Act as an advocate for the Stroke Program for the organization.
  • Interact with other medical disciplines to enhance stroke care and education. For example, working with the emergency department physicians, Intensivists, and EMS to support competency for Stroke care and evaluation.
  • Enforce hospital standards for the care of the Stroke patients with other providers, nurses, tele-stroke, etc.
  • Support and participate in the formation of Stroke protocols for the physicians and nurses to utilize in care of the patients.
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the Medical Staff, Hospital Administration, Stroke Coordinator, and Nursing Staff, other hospital departments, and Specialist on Call.
  • Complete monthly timesheet documenting hours spent in above activities.
  • Maintain required competencies for areas of specialty and those required by the Joint Commission. Specifically, the 8 yearly hours of education required by the core team.
  • Attended monthly meetings, including, but not limited to, the following: Stroke Steering Committee, TPA Task Force, Readmissions, etc.
Job Summary: The Stroke Medical Director directly influences the overall quality and standardization of care, patient experience, medical leadership, and economic performance to improve population health for the Service Line. The Physician Medical Director works 1-on-1 with an operational director. This compensated position has a time commitment up to 10 hours per month.
