This position also provides educational opportunities to pharmacy students, residents, pharmacists, physicians, and nurses through precepting, in-service presentations, and teaching at the College of Pharmacy. Pharmacists contribute to the scholarly productivity of the enterprise through clinical research, quality improvement, presentations, publications, etc., and uphold UK Healthcare core values and maintain effective teamwork with pharmacists, residents, technicians, interns, physicians, nurses, allied health staff, and others.

The starting pay for this position was recently adjusted. The minimum salary for this position will now be $104,697/year. All pay rates will be based on candidate’s experience.

Compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving written orders from physicians. Reviews and interprets prescriptions and drug profiles to ensure appropriate drug therapy has been prescribed and ensures that drug interactions are considered. Contacts and confers with physicians and other practitioners to optimize drug therapy. Maintains inventory and records on narcotics and other forms of drugs. Participates in the routine supervision and training of technical staff related to daily operations of drug distribution.

Provide patient care in a fast-paced pharmacy setting. Compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving written orders from physicians. Provide pharmaceutical care to patients admitted to Internal Medicine services, primarily at Good Samaritan Hospital. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: participating on patient care rounds, reviewing and perfecting medication orders, reviewing drug profiles to ensure appropriateness of therapy, providing pharmacokinetic consultation and documentation, actively participating in all aspects of the transitions of care process, contacting and conferring with physicians and other practitioners to optimize medication therapy.  The Pharmacist will also provide educational services to pharmacy technicians, students, residents, nurses, pharmacists, and physicians through precepting, in-services and/or presentations. The pharmacist may also contribute to the scholarly productivity of the organization through clinical research and/or publications.

This position will support ambulatory clinics in the management of patients requiring Specialty Pharmacy medications. In the absence of the Pharmacist-in-Charge ( PIC ), the Director of Operations will assume all responsibilities or will designate an appropriately experienced pharmacist on that team to fulfill interim PIC duties.
