Job Description
The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking an MRI Technologist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will perform high-quality MRI examinations, ensure patient safety and comfort, and collaborate with radiologists and clinical staff to support accurate diagnoses. You will operate advanced imaging equipment, maintain detailed records, and follow established protocols and safety standards. Responsibilities
- Perform routine and advanced MRI examinations according to established protocols and physician orders
- Verify patient identity, review clinical history, and screen patients and visitors for MRI safety and contraindications
- Prepare and position patients accurately to ensure high-quality diagnostic images while maximizing patient comfort and safety
- Start IV lines and administer contrast agents as directed, monitoring for and responding to any adverse reactions
- Assess image quality, recognize artifacts, and adjust imaging parameters or sequences as needed in consultation with radiologists
- Operate MRI scanners, coils, injectors, and related equipment, performing basic troubleshooting and routine quality control checks
- Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record, radiology information system, and PACS, ensuring timely exam completion and image availability
- Communicate effectively with radiologists, referring providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care and clarify imaging needs
- Educate patients and families about MRI procedures, addressing questions and concerns with empathy and clear communication
- Adhere to all MRI safety, infection prevention, and HIPAA privacy standards, including safe handling of ferromagnetic objects and monitoring of Zone access
- Support clinical education by working with students and trainees as appropriate, modeling professional behavior and safe imaging practices
- Participate in continuing education, in-service training, and quality improvement initiatives to maintain current knowledge and support departmental goals
