Job Description
RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Surgical Technician to support perioperative teams in delivering safe, efficient patient care. In this role, you will prepare operating rooms, arrange and maintain sterile instruments and supplies, and assist surgeons and nurses during surgical procedures. You will adhere to strict infection control and safety protocols, perform instrument counts, and help with patient positioning and room turnover. Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms and ensure all instruments, equipment, and supplies are available and sterile
- Set up and maintain the sterile field, adhering to aseptic and infection control standards
- Anticipate surgeon and nurse needs during procedures, passing instruments and supplies efficiently
- Perform accurate instrument, sponge, and needle counts with circulating staff
- Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping under RN and surgeon direction
- Operate and care for sterilization and decontamination equipment, including autoclaves
- Support room turnover between cases, including cleaning, restocking, and equipment checks
- Document required intraoperative information in accordance with hospital policies
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to promote patient safety and quality outcomes
- Participate in ongoing training, competencies, and quality improvement initiatives
