We are seeking a Director, Executive Compensation to join our People & Culture team and play a key role in supporting executive compensation programs across one of the nation's largest nonprofit health systems.

This position offers a unique opportunity to partner with senior leaders and contribute to the design, administration, and governance of executive compensation programs that support enterprise strategy, growth, and organizational performance. Working closely with the Vice President and Associate Vice President of Executive Compensation, you will provide analytical expertise, market insights, compensation governance, and strategic support across a broad range of executive compensation initiatives.

About This Opportunity

As the Director, Executive Compensation, you will serve as a trusted partner and subject matter expert supporting executive compensation strategy, job evaluation, market benchmarking, incentive plans, executive offers, governance, and compensation analytics. You will play a vital role in ensuring compensation programs remain competitive, compliant, data-driven, and aligned with Advocate Health's mission and business objectives.

What You'll Do

  • Lead executive job evaluation and market benchmarking activities for executive and senior leadership positions.

  • Conduct competitive market analyses and maintain executive compensation benchmarking data and documentation.

  • Support annual short-term and long-term incentive goal-setting processes, reporting, and payout modeling.

  • Develop executive compensation analyses and recommendations supporting external offers, promotions, retention actions, and off-cycle compensation decisions.

  • Partner with Talent Acquisition, Finance, Human Resources, and business leaders to ensure effective compensation governance and decision-making.

  • Build and maintain executive compensation dashboards, reporting tools, and analytical models.

  • Produce market positioning analyses, pay equity reviews, incentive plan reporting, and executive compensation insights.

  • Prepare materials, presentations, and data visualizations for executive leadership and Compensation Committee discussions.

  • Support education, communication, and training initiatives related to executive compensation programs and policies.

  • Serve as the compensation partner for the People & Culture organization, providing consultation on compensation actions, market pricing, job evaluation, and leveling.

  • Support mergers, acquisitions, integrations, and organizational design initiatives through compensation analysis and impact assessments.

  • Ensure compliance with executive compensation regulations and governance requirements, including IRS-related executive compensation reporting support.

  • Participate in strategic initiatives and continuous improvement efforts that enhance compensation processes, systems, and program effectiveness.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business, or a related field.

  • Seven or more years of progressive compensation experience.

  • Experience supporting executive compensation programs, processes, or governance activities.

  • Strong background in compensation benchmarking, market analysis, financial modeling, and incentive plan administration.

  • Advanced Excel and analytical skills with the ability to transform data into actionable insights.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality work.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including experience preparing materials for senior leaders and executives.

  • Strong business partnership and stakeholder management capabilities.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across People & Culture, Finance, Legal, and operational teams.

  • Experience working in HR technology platforms such as Workday, Oracle, SAP, or SuccessFactors.

  • Continuous improvement mindset with a passion for solving complex compensation challenges.

Preferred

  • Master's degree or MBA.

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) credential.

  • Experience within healthcare, nonprofit, or large complex organizations.

  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, organizational design, or operating model initiatives.

  • Experience with compensation market tools such as CompAnalyst, PayFactors, or MarketPay.

  • Knowledge of executive compensation regulatory requirements, including IRS 409A and 4958 guidelines.
