Job Summary
The Patient Access Services Representative supports the Obstetrics (OB) Emergency Unit, a 24/7 unit on the third floor of Pavilion H that provides immediate care for pregnant and postpartum patients with urgent needs. This position facilitates efficient patient arrival and registration by verifying demographics and insurance, correcting registration errors, collecting patient‑responsibility payments, and ensuring full compliance with HIPAA and UK HealthCare privacy policies.

As a key member of the OBED team, the representative assists patients during high‑stress situations, helps resolve concerns, and supports smooth transitions of care. The role also participates in unit and enterprise efforts to improve quality, efficiency, safety, and patient experience.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
The ideal candidate will be customer service oriented; possess patient scheduling and health insurance knowledge; have the ability to multi-task with a strong emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail; proficient in Microsoft Office, to include Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel; excellent communication skills (both written and verbal); solid time management, critical thinking, follow-through, and planning and organizational skills are all critical to the success in this position and a high level of respect for confidentiality is a must.

Preferred Education/Experience
4 years of healthcare customer service experience preferred and previous experience working with patient scheduling is highly preferred.
