Job Summary : To perform polysomnographic recordings and the various technical duties related to the polysomnographic evaluations (HST, PSG, PAP, MWT and MSLT) of various sleep disorders.  Prepare patients for testing, perform tests, and prepare test results for physician interpretation.  Complete other duties as needed.

The Registered Polysomnography Technician will provide sleep monitoring and interventions to all patients. The primary responsibilities include registering patients; gathering patient pre-study paperwork; preparing patients and equipment for procedures; explaining procedures and interactions to patients; completing follow-up notes as needed; performing polysomnography studies and analyzing data to assist in obtaining proper diagnosis; entering charges; and cleaning all study equipment. This position will also have some administrative and clerical responsibilities for the department’s daily operations.

Overview Under the supervision of the Center for Sleep Disorders Director, the Polysomnographic Technologist performs all types of diagnostic testing offered in the department.  Functions include equipment and patient calibration, set-up, performance, documentation, and troubleshooting of Polysomnographic recordings, tabulation and processing of test information, sleep laboratory logistical operations.  Also performs oversight, education and training of PSG and student technologists during the work shift.  Participates in performance improvement program and new program development.  Assumes responsibility and accountability for patients in the department and provides care to these patients through assessment, observation and documentation.
