As an assistant to the Respiratory Therapist, the Cardiopulmonary Technician will primarily be responsible for performing 12-lead ECGs and Rhythm Strips in the Chandler Emergency Department according to department standards. The Cardiopulmonary Technician is responsible for interpreting the validity of the results by evaluating basic cardiac physiology. The Cardiopulmonary Technician ensures consistent communication of test results to the registered nurse and physician as well as the Respiratory Therapist. The Cardiopulmonary Technician will document according to department standard and report any problems to a registered nurse or physician. The Cardiopulmonary Technician will primarily be responsible for the continuous monitoring and interpreting of cardiac physiological data, detecting and documenting any changes in heart rhythm and arrhythmias according to department standards, and reporting any problems to a registered nurse or physician. The Cardiopulmonary Technician will immediately review and validate alarms to reduce “false alarms” and improve detection of actual adverse events by providing a consistent method for EKG monitoring and enhancing patient safety. Additionally, the cardiopulmonary technician will be responsible for maintaining equipment to ensure proper function. This includes proper placement and function of all cables and monitors connected to patient.
