Compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving written orders from physicians. Reviews and interprets prescriptions and drug profiles to ensure appropriate drug therapy has been prescribed and ensures that drug interactions are evaluated. Position supports facilitating discharge patients from UK Emergency Department and inpatient hospitals in acquisition of medications written upon discharge. Position supports and provides assistance with the documentation, filling of prescriptions, financial assistance with acquisition of medications, billing and dispensing of the medications to bedside for patients using our Meds To Beds program.

This position assists in managing the pharmaceutical care workload; compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving written orders from physicians; and reviews and interprets prescriptions and drug profiles to ensure appropriate drug therapy has been prescribed and drug interactions are monitored.

This position will support ambulatory clinics in the management of patients requiring Specialty Pharmacy medications. In the absence of the Pharmacist-in-Charge ( PIC ), the Director of Operations will assume all responsibilities or will designate an appropriately experienced pharmacist on that team to fulfill interim PIC duties. If the Director of Operations is also absent, a SCSP will determine which pharmacist should assume PIC duties. Strong clinical oversight and patient education is mandatory for high functioning specialty pharmacies. The UK Specialty pharmacy will improve clinic workflow, increase patient satisfaction, and increase the volume of specialty medications dispensed through UK pharmacies. The creation of a UK HealthCare Specialty Pharmacy will allow subspecialty care to be managed entirely within UK HealthCare, avoiding the fractured care that currently exists by relying on external specialty pharmacies and manufacturer hubs.
