The Student is a limited role/supervised Technician who works supervised with responsibility assigned to an MLT per shift. The Student MLT must have basic knowledge of test procedures and related disease processes, recognizing appropriate test selection and abnormal test results; comply with safety practices and ethical standards; follow procedural guidelines for quality control monitoring, computer applications, instrumentation trouble-shooting, and specimen collection/processing; prioritize work to maintain maximum efficiency and standard of care; assist with training and cost control; recognize technical problems/suggest solutions; understand life span growth/development to interpret data and provide age-appropriate care.
