Responsibilities IMC / PCU Overview   The Intermediate Care Unit (IMC), also known as the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), at The George Washington University Hospital bridges the gap between ICU and general medical-surgical care. The IMC/PCU provides specialized monitoring and treatment for patients who require higher acuity care, including continuous cardiac monitoring, complex medication management, and frequent assessments. Patients in the IMC/PCU may include those stepping down from the ICU, patients with cardiac, respiratory, neurological, or medical conditions requiring close observation, and those at risk for clinical deterioration.
