Overview About the Role The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a skilled health provider who through a written collaborative practice agreement with a physician is credentialed through the Medical Staff Office. As a member of the Medical Staff the APN demonstrates standards of professional practice that includes ethical decision making, job activities related to quality assessment/improvement, self-evaluation, leadership, and research. The APN is self-directed and purposeful in seeking necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain competency. The APN in the Surgery Practices utilizes critical judgment in the performance of comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis, and the prescribing of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments in the direct management of patients diagnosed with a variety of surgical conditions/diseases. Responsibilities Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of New Jersey. Three (3) years of nursing experience in Emergency Department, Critical Care or Medical/Surgical required. One (1) year of experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse in Emergency, Critical Care, Adult or Family preferred. Demonstrates effective leadership competencies to be carried out in the day‐to‐day activities of the department. BLS (CPR) and ACLS required. Responsibilities The primary purpose of the Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) position is to provide high quality patient care. The APN utilizes advanced practice nursing expertise to provide care to patients in the Emergency Department. Other responsibilities for the APN include, but are not limited to, participation in staff orientation, consultation and evaluation for patients, families and health care team members.
