Responsibilities CVICU Overview The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at The George Washington University Hospital specializes in the care of critically ill cardiac and cardiothoracic surgery patients. Our team manages complex cases including post open-heart surgery recovery (CABG, valve replacements), advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support devices (IABP, Impella), and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). The CVICU provides a fast-paced, highly specialized environment where nurses develop deep expertise in hemodynamic monitoring, cardiac pharmacology, and advanced life support therapies while collaborating with leading cardiac surgeons and intensivists.
