The Plastic Surgery APP works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team. In conjunction with the attending, residents, and co-APPs, the APP will oversee care from consultation, inpatient management, assisting in the operating room, discharge and outpatient setting. The focus of this APP position will be within our hand surgery team, though a vital member of the entire plastic surgery group. The APP has a strong foundation in evidenced based practice and education and ensuring an environment of safe, quality care. This position requires hands-on skills, as well as a high level of clinical skills. The APP demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competency, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and takes responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency validation.

This is a 12 bed progressive care unit located in Pavilion A, that provides care for patients with a wide variety of conditions including head and neck cancers, ENT conditions, and reconstructive plastic surgery, with a heavy emphasis on post-surgical care. RNs on this unit provide care to patients who are moderately stable, with fluctuating patient acuity, have complex needs and require comprehensive care. This unit is a universal bed area which includes acute and progressive level care. The universal bed model includes frequent RN assessments and more intensive level of care/monitoring including progressive care/telemetry. As a part of this unit, the RN serves as an important component of the interdisciplinary progressive care team. This team is responsible for closely monitoring the patient’s physiologic condition, performing frequent treatments as ordered by the physician, and providing a safe transition from progressive to acute care.
