Overview: Serves as a clinical and administrative support to the Nurse Manager on a designated unit to ensure the delivery of professional and outcomes-focused care. Accountable for daily staffing and unit based follow-up of issues that assist in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care needs based on quality benchmarking, patient acuity/care trends, staff clinical education needs and patient satisfaction. Provides leadership to ensure excellence in nursing research, education, and practice. Works with the Nurse Manager to provide staff development and performance evaluations, and works collaboratively with the Nursing Coordinators to facilitate throughput. Overview: The cardiothoracic-vascular Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing care to patients in select phases of Perioperative care (as competency demonstrates). This care utilizes the nursing process and the standards of care of a professional nurse. The RN is expected to perform all staff nurse activities and functions as charge nurse when assigned. The RN maintains overall accountability/responsibility for assigned patients, even though some activities/ tasks may be delegated to Surgical Technologists, Patient Care Associated, Guest Associates and Anesthesia Technologists. Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the RN manages individualized, goal directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
