Overall Responsibility:
To establish guidelines to identify the professional qualifications and skill required for employment in the pre-operative area for the RN. It is the Pre-Op nurse’s responsibility to formulate and execute the nursing care for patients of all ages in the Pre-Op area to ensure the patients receives the highest quality care, that their safety is ensured according policy and procedure, and to instigate and execute all other tasks as requested by the Chief Nursing Officer.
Key tasks and responsibilities (essential functions)
The Pre-Op nurse is to greet the patient in the lobby and escort the patient to the pre-op testing area.
The nurse is to ensure all orders are correct for lab, EKG and CXR per the doctor’s standing orders. Notify the doctor of any abnormal lab, EKG, and CXR.
Form the packet with the patient’s pre-op testing results. Print the next day’s schedule and pull packets.
Make pre-op calls on the next day’s surgery schedule.
