About this Job: Unit Highlights The 5 West Surgical Unit has the capacity to serve up to (20) patients with a focus on a variety of surgical specialty patients. Many of these patients  have  elective surgeries and are discharged within 1-2 days of their procedure.  These specialties include but are not limited to: Orthopedic, Bariatric, General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Spinal Surgery.   Staff are uniquely trained to work with these patients as they are educated in general post-operative patient care as well as the aspects of each specialty care domain.   Staff on this unit will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team which includes: PACU staff, Attending Surgical Providers, Surgical Physician Assistants, Hospitalists, Physical Therapy/Rehab, Respiratory Therapy, and of course Nursing.  This unit follows the standard for medical/surgical nursing staff to patient  ratio’s  that are in place across our Medstar Enterprise.
