Under the supervision and collaboration of a physician hospitalist, the nurse practitioner provides comprehensive direct patient care and practice include obtaining comprehensive patient histories, performing complete physical examinations, order and performing diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients, and providing health maintenance and promotion inventions such as patient and family education and counseling. Providing continuous care and coverage for hospitalized patients during the night, including admissions, discharges, and addressing any emergent needs.
