LAB ASSISTANT/PHLEBOTOMIST Job Description: Draws blood from patients and prepares specimens for screening, analysis, or other laboratory procedures. Inventories and orders computer, clerical and phlebotomy supplies.  Logs and replaces supplies as appropriate. Registers patients and specimens into the Hospital Computer system and orders laboratory testing. Centrifuges, aliquots and labels specimens for referral testing and laboratory testing. Patient Service Center Float Phlebotomists work in multiple Patient Service Centers (PSCs) staffed by Beth Israel Lahey Health Phlebotomy Services, as needs arise, to: (a) cover for PSC Phlebotomists' Paid Time Off, other absences, and FLMAs, (b) cover for vacant PSC Phlebotomist positions, (c) reduce patient wait times in PSCs that have longer wait times than desirable, and (d) facilitate the opening of new lab Patient Service Centers.
