Overview The phlebotomist works under the immediate supervision of the Medical Technologist/Technician, is primarily responsible for the phlebotomy procedures, including veni-punctures, finger sticks, heel sticks, bleeding times, urine collection and drug screen collections. The phlebotomist is also responsible for processing in the reference lab reports and for sorting/charting various lab results. The phlebotomist is expected to assist in certain clerical duties, such as running daily reports, assisting with the out-patients, taking orders off of the computer, putting up supplies and cleaning their trays and any work area. Overview Job Summary . Performs repetitive and complex laboratory analyses.  Correlates and interprets laboratory data based on knowledge of physiological conditions affecting test results. Qualifications Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required Education Certification as a Medical Technologist from a nationally recognized credentialing agency, i.e., ASCP, HEW, or AMT.   Experience Experience as generalist strongly preferred.  Phlebotomy experience preferred.   Additional Skills/Abilities Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly.  Must be able to maintain absolute confidentiality in the handling of patient information.  Absolute integrity and accuracy in the identification and reporting of number and names.
