The primary responsibility of the hospitalist or inpatient physician specialist is to providegeneral medical and pediatric care to inpatients and selected outpatients (e.g., when consultationis requested by an Emergency Department physician to help determine patient=s disposition, whenconsultation is requested in Surgical Services or the Post Anesthesia Care Unit by a surgeon oranesthesia practitioner for an outpatient).
