Overview The Emergency Department Tech performs patient care needs and task where a license is not required, as directed by the nurse. This may include, but not limited to, assisting with toileting, specimen collection, vital signs, patient transport, cardiac monitor application, EKG’s and finger stick glucose after appropriate training.   The ED Tech also may perform clerical, secretarial duties related to the assigned unit under the direction of the unit director.  He/she acts as the unit’s receptionist, answers patient and visitor inquirers within the scope of practice.  In addition, the unit secretary will order and monitor utilization of selected supplies: office, nutritional supplements, and forms.
