Security Technician

Summary

The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment across the Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital (HCMH) complex.  Duties include patrolling interior and exterior areas to provide a visible deterrent to criminal activity; directing visitors and patients to appropriate locations; and interacting with patients to ensure they are checked into the Emergency Department (ED) properly and efficiently.  Security Officers also monitor surveillance equipment; detect criminal and suspicious activity which threaten patient, visitors, and staff safety and security; respond to situations that require a security intervention; and execute decontamination procedures for potentially hazardous situations involving chemical or biological materials.  Security Officers are responsible for documenting all incidents, accidents, and emergencies, and may be called upon to testify in criminal or civil court proceedings.
  
Education and Formal Training: Criminal Justice or security related training and certification highly preferred.
 
Work Experience: Law enforcement or security related experience greatly desired.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Ability to communicate in a professional manner at all times; ability to follow directions accurately; and ability to evaluate situations and develop appropriate response plan with little to no direct supervision.  Must possess initiative and ability to identify improvements to increase safety and efficiency for operational activity.  Must possess excellent customer service skills.  Must be capable of de-escalating situations through verbal interaction in a stressful and fast-paced environment.  Must be capable of physically intervening in situations involving aggressive and physically violent individuals while following applicable policy and law.  Must be able to work in cross-functional teams to respond to security and medical emergencies within the HCMH campus.
