Physician Assistant Job Details
- Location: Hartford, Connecticut
- Specialty: Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Practice Setting: Inpatient cardiothoracic surgery, including operating room, consult, and step-down unit coverage
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $3,500-$4,140
- Start: As soon as credentialing is completed
- Duration: Initial 13-week locum tenens assignment with potential to extend
- Schedule: Weekend coverage only, from Friday at 6:00 p.m. through Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
- Shift Duration: 12-hour coverage blocks, including overnight coverage
- Patient Volume: Approximately 10 patients per day
- Patient Population: Adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
- Practice Model: Autonomous practice with no on-site supervising physician during the assignment
Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant Requirements
- Board certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- At least 1 year of Physician Assistant experience; cardiothoracic surgery experience is strongly preferred
- Active Connecticut Physician Assistant license in hand at the time of submission
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications
- Demonstrated ability to practice independently in an inpatient surgical setting
- Epic experience preferred
- No new graduates
- Must be local to the area and able to provide coverage at two regional hospital locations approximately 35 miles apart
Physician Assistant Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient cardiothoracic surgery coverage, including weekend call responsibilities
- Perform preoperative physical examinations and evaluate patients throughout their surgical course
- Assist with cardiothoracic surgical procedures in the operating room
- Conduct inpatient consultations and round on patients in the step-down unit
- Manage patient care, coordinate services, and communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Diagnose and treat illnesses within the Physician Assistant's scope of practice
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests
- Write prescriptions and support continuity of care
- Perform suture removal and other appropriate postoperative care
- Perform credentialed procedures such as placement of central venous and dialysis catheters, arterial lines, and endoscopic retrievals
