Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of work experience in environmental health and safety, chemical safety, biological safety, radiation safety, laboratory safety, or hazardous materials management
Certifications, Licenses, or Registration required:
Valid US Driver’s License. DOT certification for shipping hazardous goods is required post-hire within one (1) year.
Preferred Experience:
One (1) year of radiation safety experience in a medical institution under the supervision of a Radiation Safety Officer.
Preferred Certifications:
Certified Laser Safety Officer (CLSO) certification through the Board of Laser Safety (BLS)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of chemical, biological, and/or radiation safety principles, standards, protocols, hazardous materials management, laboratory operations, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Skill in conducting safety inspections, assessing regulatory compliance, investigating incidents, preparing technical reports, delivering safety training, and communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders. Ability to analyze and interpret data; develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships; assess and mitigate risks; work safely in environments involving hazardous chemical, biological, or radiological materials while using appropriate personal protective equipment; and respond effectively in emergency situations.

Physical and Environmental Demands
Requires frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, constant handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, constant exposure to bio-hazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, occasional work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, occasional lifting and carrying more than 100 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional driving, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, frequent twisting, and frequent walking (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more).
