The Manager of Clinical Engineering is responsible for managing the Clinical Engineering project-management program and project portfolio across Beth Israel Lahey Health. The position establishes and maintains standardized project-management processes, tools, reporting, and governance to support the effective planning and execution of medical technology and capital equipment initiatives.Job Description:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
1. Manages the Clinical Engineering project portfolio and project-management process, establishing standardized methods for project intake, assessment, prioritization, planning, resource assignment, execution, documentation, monitoring, escalation, and closure.
2. Establishes a scalable project-management approach based upon project complexity, risk, organizational impact, resource requirements, and stakeholder needs, providing direct management or increased oversight for complex initiatives while enabling appropriately qualified Clinical Engineering personnel to independently manage lower-complexity projects.
3. Maintains visibility of active, planned, and pending Clinical Engineering projects and develops appropriate project schedules, dashboards, milestones, risk indicators, portfolio reports, and other performance measures.
4. Evaluates project scope, complexity, organizational impact, technical requirements, risk, resource demand, dependencies, and stakeholder needs to determine the appropriate level of Clinical Engineering project-management support.
5. Assigns Clinical Engineering personnel and other available resources to projects based upon technical expertise, workload, project requirements, organizational priorities, and development opportunities.
6. Provides project-management coaching, mentoring, tools, methodologies, and guidance to Clinical Engineering personnel performing project-management responsibilities, regardless of formal reporting relationship.
7. Develops project-management capability within the Clinical Engineering team and promotes consistent use of established project-management processes, documentation, communication practices, and performance expectations.
8. Directly manages selected complex, strategic, high-risk, or multidisciplinary medical technology projects requiring significant coordination, structure, and Clinical Engineering oversight.
9. Coordinates project activities among Clinical Engineering, clinical departments, HTM, Clinical Systems Engineering, Information Services, Facilities, Supply Chain, Finance, vendors, manufacturers, and other project stakeholders.
10. Develops and maintains project plans defining scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, responsibilities, dependencies, risks, resources, communications, implementation requirements, and completion criteria.
11. Monitors project progress and portfolio performance and identify schedule conflicts, resource constraints, project dependencies, risks, barriers, and competing priorities; facilitate resolution or escalate issues to the Executive Director as appropriate.
12. Supports medical technology evaluation, acquisition, implementation, acceptance, transition to operational support, and project closeout activities.
13. Ensures appropriate project documentation, decisions, technical records, implementation records, acceptance documentation, quality records, and lessons learned are maintained according to established policies and Quality Management System requirements.
14. Supervises assigned Clinical Engineering personnel and other resources based upon organizational and program needs; establishes work priorities, performance expectations, development plans, and accountability. Has direct responsibility for the selection, performance management, development, and accountability of assigned personnel in accordance with BILH policies.
15. Supports the Executive Director in development of annual and long-range medical equipment capital plans by evaluating project readiness, implementation complexity, resource requirements, scheduling, dependencies, and organizational capacity.
16. Supports technology evaluation and lifecycle-cost analysis for equipment purchases and implementation decisions.
17. Uses project metrics, portfolio data, lessons learned, stakeholder feedback, and continuous-improvement methodologies to improve Clinical Engineering project-management processes and outcomes.
18. Ensures assigned activities comply with applicable regulatory, accreditation, safety, risk-management, and Quality Management System requirements. 19. Participates in emergency management and project-related escalation as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering required. Master's degree in a related field preferred.
Licensure, Certification & Registration: Must be eligible for Certification in Clinical Engineering. CCE and PMP certifications preferred.
Experience: Five or more years of progressively responsible Clinical Engineering, Healthcare Technology Management, medical technology, or healthcare engineering experience required, including two or more years of supervisory, management, project/program leadership, or comparable leadership experience. Demonstrated experience managing or coordinating complex multidisciplinary medical technology projects required.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
Knowledge of Clinical Engineering and Healthcare Technology Management principles and practices.
Knowledge of medical equipment planning, evaluation, acquisition, implementation, and lifecycle management.
Demonstrated project-management and organizational skills.
Ability to manage a portfolio containing projects of significantly different sizes, complexity, risk, and required oversight.
Ability to prioritize work and allocate resources across competing projects and organizational needs.
Ability to coach and mentor technical professionals in project-management practices.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, facilitation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
Knowledge of current clinical technologies, medical-device networking and interoperability, and general medical technology.
Ability to develop project plans, dashboards, reports, analyses, and presentations using appropriate computer and web-based tools.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
PMP certification preferred.
CCE certification preferred.
Master’s degree in engineering, Healthcare Administration, Business, Project Management, or a related field preferred.
Pay Range:
$126,880.00 USD - $171,288.00 USDThe pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
