Mental Health Services Coordinator

UPMC Child Advocacy Center of Central PA is seeking a compassionate, adaptable, and mission-driven Mental Health Services Coordinator to join our dedicated team. In this role, you will provide advocacy, resource coordination, and trauma-informed support to children and families when there are concerns of child abuse. This position will also provide coverage at our satellite locations:

  • 100 E. Queen Street, Jonestown, PA
  • 49 Brookwood Ave, Carlisle, PA

The position will primarily be based in Harrisburg four days per week, with one day per week providing satellite coverage.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Monday through Friday daytime office hours
  • Standard schedule: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Occasional after-hours support for urgent appointments, approximately eight times per year
  • Future opportunities to assist with support group coverage as program needs evolve

What You'll Do

As a Mental Health Services Coordinator, you will serve as an essential member of the multidisciplinary Child Advocacy Center team. Responsibilities include:

  • Provide advocacy and resource coordination services to children and families when concerns of child abuse are identified.
  • Obtain social and mental health histories from children and caregivers.
  • Conduct trauma assessments with children and caretakers to identify signs and symptoms of post-traumatic stress.
  • Connect families with appropriate community and mental health resources, including trauma-focused treatment services.
  • Collaborate closely with forensic interviewers, medical providers, therapists, and other Child Advocacy Center team members.
  • Support families throughout the Child Advocacy Center process with compassion and professionalism.
  • Meet families where they are and deliver individualized, trauma-informed care based on their unique needs and circumstances.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and facilitate appropriate referrals and follow-up services.

    Responsibilities:
  • Must be optimistic, enthusiastic, and communicate effectively at all levels. Must have good organizational and writing skills and possess confidence in speaking before large groups. The Child Interview Specialist must be emotionally prepared, on a daily basis, to interact with child abuse victims and their families. The Child Interview Specialist must be non-judgmental and non-reactive to issues of abuse during patient and family interactions.
  • Provides coverage for non-traditional hours as necessary.
  • Assists with administrative duties, as requested by the Manager of the CRC.
  • Communicates and cooperates with administration and other departments to implement clinical services and activities. Assists with public awareness and fundraising campaigns to increase the community’s knowledge and support of services provided.
  • Develop guidelines to delineate how mental health services differ from the forensic interview process and communicating those guidelines to team members.
  • Track data relating to referrals.
  • Refer families to mental health providers in the county in which they live who, are trained in TF-CBT;
  • Identify and implement a trauma assessment too for administration to all children who are seen at the CRC;
  • Develop Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with the providers;
  • Identify mental health providers in service area who are trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
  • Coordinate mental health referrals of the children who come to the CRC
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field preferred. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and three years of experience in the field of child abuse and family violence will be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.
  • Experience working with teams. 

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
     
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
