JOB SUMMARY

The Grounds Maintenance Supervisor is a key person in establishing the first impression with our customers (patients, visitors, city residents, physicians, all CCH staff, and other external customers), by directly establishing and maintaining the external appearance of all CCH grounds and properties to have a positive and safe impact on the public. This position works under the Manager of Plant Operations. This position also manages the CCH vehicle fleet both by scheduling regular maintenance and required unscheduled repairs. The Supervisor is responsible for the hiring and performance of the Grounds staff and must work with minimal supervision.

Supervises and trains building and grounds maintenance staff. Oversees landscaping activities, the maintenance of sidewalks and parking areas, and the removal of trash and snow. Maintains and monitors the operation of all utility systems such as heating, ventilating and air conditioning. A level I supervisor is considered a working supervisor with little authority for personnel actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent.

Assists with the acquisition, operations, and maintenance of the organization's fleet of motor vehicles. Evaluates, purchases, leases, and disposes of vehicles to maintain the fleet. Develops and maintains vendor and service provider relationships for fuel, maintenance, and other essential services. Preventive maintenance. Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and fleet-specific regulations, licensing, registration, and reporting requirements. Manages the fleet expense reporting and budgets.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manages lawn development and maintenance, landscape areas, trees, shrubs, parking lots, entrances, and other areas, as assigned.
  • During winter months, manages snow removal and other related duties to ensure that all CCH properties are as free as possible of snow and ice in parking lots and walkways.
  • Ensures maintenance and repairs are completed on all grounds and snow removal equipment and maintenance records are maintained on each piece of equipment.
  • Assists with the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of the Grounds Maintenance Techs.
  • Provides guidance / plans for Grounds Maintenance Techs regarding mowing, trimming, weeding, watering and fertilizing lawn areas, trees, and shrubs per schedule. Initiates changes, as needed, to ensure health and appearance of each.
  • Provide input on capital purchase of CCH fleet vehicles as well as on five-year master plan for CCH fleet vehicles.
  • Schedules regular maintenance on CCH vehicle fleet, as well as provides un-scheduled repairs for CCH vehicle fleet as they arise.
  • Performs maintenance and repair on sprinkler irrigation systems including wells, valves, electrical boxes, piping, and coverage areas to ensure proper operation of system and effectiveness of sprinkler system.
  • Provides input on how building projects can/ will impact site utilities.
  • Manages and uses personnel protective equipment (PPE) as required for the protection of self and others. PPE includes, but is not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, equipment guards, ect.
  • Prioritizes the scheduling of all duties and activities for the department.
  • Encourages cost savings for the department and organization.
  • Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.

Qualifications

 

  1. Education, Training, Experience:
  • Education: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Licensure: Applicators license preferred. Licenses or certificates to operate applicable equipment required.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years similar work experience. Supervisory experience preferred.

  • The ability to maintain continuing education requirements and all certifications and licenses as required (e.g. ACLS, PALS, CPI, CPR)
  • Demonstrates professionalism and courteous etiquette.

  • Ability to supervise/ manage in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ability to calibrate equipment.

  • Knowledge of mechanical, basic electrical, and controls.
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints.
