Responsibilities

  • Assess, prepare, and educate patients before cardiac catheterization and interventional cardiology procedures
  • Assist cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures, maintaining a sterile field and supporting safe, efficient workflow
  • Monitor patients' cardiac rhythm, hemodynamics, and overall status before, during, and after procedures, intervening promptly as needed
  • Administer medications, including anticoagulants, contrast agents, and moderate sedation, following protocols and safety standards
  • Manage vascular access sites, including sheath management, hemostasis, and post procedure circulation checks
  • Recognize and respond to cardiac and hemodynamic emergencies, following ACLS guidelines and unit protocols
  • Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot cath lab and monitoring equipment, ensuring proper radiation safety for patients and staff
  • Document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses accurately in the electronic health record
  • Collaborate with physicians, technologists, and other members of the care team to coordinate patient care and optimize outcomes
  • Provide post procedure recovery care, discharge teaching, and follow up instructions to patients and families
  • Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards within the cath lab
  • Adapt to new facilities and workflows as a travel nurse, maintaining professionalism, flexibility, and excellent communication
