JOB SUMMARY
The Supervisor of Respiratory Therapy at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the activities of the Respiratory Care Department. Responsible for direct patient care, staff supervision, performance monitoring, customer service, and compliance with regulatory guidelines, the incumbent must possess a valid Mississippi Respiratory Care Practitioner License and demonstrate proficiency in patient care across various age groups. Additionally, the role requires strong leadership skills, effective communication, and the ability to solve complex problems related to staffing, patient care, and departmental policies and procedures. As a supervisor, this role oversees and guides a team of employees to ensure efficient task completion, promoting teamwork and effective coordination.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Direct Patient Care:

  • In addition to any/all supervisory responsibilities/accountabilities described herein, this position provides direct patient care and serves as the primary respiratory care provider for his/her shift.
    Supervisory:
  • Coordinates the activities of the Respiratory Care Department to provide quality service in clinical and non-clinical areas.
  • Performs/reviews quality controls and equipment maintenance.
  • Implements and coordinates compliance with departmental policies/procedures.
  • Oversees chart reviews/auditing and daily revenue analysis.
    Customer Service:
  • Evaluates customer service and satisfaction.
  • Recommends and implements action plans for improved outcomes and implements service recovery.
    Staffing:
  • Make adjustment necessary to balance the available staff to the comprehensive services expected of the Respiratory Care Department.
    Budget:
  • Provides input in preparing and submitting budget requests.
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance.
    Performance monitoring:
  • Assures staff competency and proficiency.
  • Evaluates and provides coaching to employees within scope of responsibility. This includes the EXCEL process with all respiratory personnel.
    Regulatory Knowledge:
  • Keeps abreast of current regulatory guidelines and assures compliance. (Respiratory Care Practitioner State Licensure, JCAHO, OSHA, etc.).
    Clinical Reference:
  • Maintains a high level of proficiency in all essential functions.



Qualifications




Education
 Associate's Degree . Required

Licenses and Certifications
RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist. . Upon Hire. Required And RCP - Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner. Must maintain a valid and current Mississippi. Upon Hire. Required

Work Experience
1-3 years. Three years’ experience, prior supervisory experience. Preferred

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skill necessary to care for a wide range of patients, including; infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Must keep abreast of all Respiratory Care Policies and Procedures and assure staff compliance. Must possess a strong working knowledge of the Medical Center’s Employee Guidelines (Performance evaluation, Wage & Salary Guidelines, Benefit Time Guidelines, Disciplinary Process, Etc.). New employees must complete In Depth hospital orientation, Respiratory Care departmental orientation and Supervisor Orientation, must also meet all annual competency requirements. Must possess good communication skills and serve as a role model, reflecting a positive and caring attitude toward patients, staff and the public we serve. Serves as a Respiratory Care resource for physicians, nurses, staff and students. Ability to organize and prioritize departmental responsibilities to optimize quality patient care. Responsible for planning and implementing the workload distribution process to achieve quality, cost effective care. Recommends changes in therapeutic modalities to promote the most positive outcome. Actively demonstrates CARES and AIDET to promote teamwork within the department and in the patient care areas. Extensive contact with patients and staff, including physicians, nurses and other ancillary services. Experience contact with patient’s family members on a routine basis Will represent the department in service recovery opportunities with freedom to act as they deem necessary to improve customer satisfaction.
