Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive pre procedure assessments, including history, allergies, medications, and lab review, and identify potential risk factors for radiologic or interventional procedures.
- Establish IV access, administer ordered medications and contrast agents safely, and monitor patients for adverse reactions or complications.
- Provide nursing care before, during, and after radiology and interventional procedures, including monitoring vital signs, level of consciousness, pain, and sedation.
- Assist radiologists and technologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures, ensuring equipment, supplies, and emergency medications are readily available.
- Monitor patients receiving moderate sedation, document sedation levels and vital signs, and respond promptly to any changes in patient status.
- Educate patients and families about upcoming procedures, preparation requirements, post procedure expectations, and discharge instructions in clear, compassionate language.
- Adhere strictly to radiation safety principles, infection prevention, and facility policies to protect patients, staff, and self.
- Coordinate care with radiologists, technologists, anesthesiology, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure efficient patient flow and high quality outcomes.
- Recognize and respond to emergencies such as contrast reactions, bleeding, respiratory compromise, or hemodynamic instability, following ACLS/BLS protocols.
- Document all assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses accurately and promptly in the electronic health record.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, protocol updates, and continuing education related to radiology and interventional nursing.
