Job Description
HealthONE seeks a Nurse Extern in Labor and Delivery (PRN) to support RNs and the care team in a fast-paced, family-centered unit. Under RN supervision, you will assist with patient admission and discharge tasks, obtain vital signs, perform basic patient care, maintain a clean and safe environment, and help prepare rooms and equipment for labor, delivery, and postpartum care. You will accurately document in the medical record, follow safety and infection-control protocols, and respond promptly to patient needs, while learning advanced L&D skills and building a foundation for a professional nursing career.
Responsibilities
- Assist RNs with patient care in labor and delivery under direct supervision
- Obtain and document vital signs, intake/output, and basic assessments as directed
- Support admission, transfer, and discharge processes for patients and families
- Prepare, stock, and clean patient rooms, equipment, and supplies for L&D procedures
- Follow infection prevention, safety, and patient identification protocols
- Provide comfort measures, hygiene assistance, and safe patient transport
- Accurately document care provided in the electronic medical record
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and support staff to ensure coordinated care
- Communicate effectively with patients and families, respecting privacy and dignity
- Participate in learning opportunities to build clinical skills and knowledge in L&D
