Job Description

Wythe County Community Hospital seeks a Registered Nurse Charge Nurse to lead and coordinate nursing care on an acute care unit. This role supervises clinical staff, manages patient assignments, and ensures safe, high quality, evidence based care. The Charge Nurse oversees shift operations, facilitates admissions and discharges, and collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary teams. Responsibilities include mentoring nurses, supporting clinical decision making, promoting patient and family education, and maintaining regulatory and hospital standards in a collaborative, community focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate nursing care for patients on an acute care unit.
  • Supervise and support nursing staff during assigned shifts.
  • Manage patient assignments, admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams on care plans.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and administer medications.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Mentor and coach nurses to support clinical growth and best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education and updates.
  • Monitor unit workflows to maintain patient safety and quality outcomes.
  • Document care accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
