Responsibilities
- Provide direct critical care nursing to adult patients in ICU and other designated high-acuity units as part of the float pool
- Perform comprehensive assessments and continuous monitoring of hemodynamic status, respiratory function, neurological status, and pain/comfort levels
- Manage ventilators, advanced airways, and other life-support equipment in collaboration with respiratory therapy and physicians
- Titrate vasoactive, sedative, insulin, and other high-risk IV infusions according to provider orders and hospital protocols
- Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition, including sepsis, arrhythmias, respiratory failure, and hemodynamic instability
- Participate in and respond to rapid response and code blue situations, following ACLS guidelines and hospital procedures
- Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized plans of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team
- Educate and support patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, procedures, and post-discharge expectations in a compassionate and clear manner
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses in the electronic health record in a timely manner
- Adhere to infection prevention, fall prevention, pressure injury prevention, and other patient safety initiatives and protocols
- Float between ICU and other designated critical care/step-down units based on staffing needs while maintaining high standards of care and professionalism
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and other team members to coordinate safe and effective care
- Participate in unit and hospital quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice initiatives, and performance measures relevant to critical care
- Maintain required certifications and participate in ongoing education and competency validation for critical care skills and equipment
- Serve as a resource to peers and assist with the orientation and mentoring of new staff and students as requested
