Heart Hospital of Austin seeks a Registered Nurse for our Facility Float Pool - Critical Care. This RN will provide expert, compassionate care to high-acuity cardiovascular and critical care patients while floating between ICU, step-down, and related units. Responsibilities include comprehensive assessments, hemodynamic monitoring, titration of critical drips, ventilator management, early recognition of deterioration, and rapid intervention. The RN will collaborate closely with cardiologists, intensivists, and interdisciplinary teams, support procedures, educate patients and families, and uphold strict safety, infection prevention, and documentation standards in a fast-paced, team-focused, learning-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to cardiovascular and critical care patients across ICU, step-down, and related units
- Perform comprehensive assessments, monitor hemodynamics, and manage complex, high-acuity conditions
- Administer and titrate IV medications and critical drips per protocol and provider orders
- Manage ventilators, oxygen therapy, and advanced monitoring equipment safely and accurately
- Recognize and respond rapidly to changes in patient condition and participate in emergency interventions
- Collaborate with cardiologists, intensivists, and interdisciplinary team members on care plans
- Educate patients and families on cardiac conditions, treatments, and post-discharge care
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record
- Adhere to infection prevention, safety, and quality standards, including hospital and regulatory policies
- Support continuous improvement, participate in training, and precept or mentor as needed
