SUMMARY

The Clinical Specialist is a fulltime or part-time position and is considered non-exempt, paid Salaried + Overtime. The Clinical Specialist provides services or supports in residential, vocational or in-home settings.  The Clinical Specialist sometimes performs assessments and evaluations, then develops a plan and educate based on the assessment. The Clinical Specialist is responsible for providing support to individuals or programs where specialized knowledge or expertise may be required. Clinical expertise includes knowledge for specialized populations such as developmental disability, brain injury, mental health or others, or expertise in special disciplines such as behavioral support, early intervention, crisis intervention or others.  The Clinical Specialist works from a primary program or site location and is required to travel between sites, to individual’s homes and accompany individuals into the community. The Clinical Specialist is expected to be available in the event of an emergency. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Services and Supports

• Clinical Responsibilities:  Ensures support plans and support services provided are in compliance with Individual Plans, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.; May assist with socialization and behavioral development, personal care, housekeeping, recreational activities, transportation, community orientation, shopping, financial management, citizenship, and other activities of daily living.  

Completes structured assessment interviews with parents/care providers. Conducts observation of the individual in appropriate settings such as home, school, or communityReviews social history information, completes functional assessments, and targets appropriate behavior base line information for each referred individual.Writes and submits summary of assessment and recommended behavior support plan components to interdisciplinary team (IDT) or operations leader, as applicable.

• Advocates for the human rights and civil rights of individuals receiving services from the agency by attending and presenting behavior support plan information to human rights and other review committees.
• Records:  Accurately documents progress and activity; reviews records and logs to stay abreast of changes in service plans; maintains confidentiality; accurately and timely completes billing documentation as applicable.  Assures that documentation and records are kept confidential, organized, and complete. Submits monthly documentation to supervisor in an accurate and timely manner.

1. Maintains healthy and professional relationships with individuals, friends, families, guardians and case managers; implements Network Customer Service Standards.
2. Reports any instance of alleged abuse or neglect according to internal and external standards; reports medical, behavioral and other incidents in accordance with Network policy and external requirements.
3. Maintains confidentiality, respects the rights of persons being served, according to applicable the bill of rights; practices universal precautions; assists individuals in exercising their rights.

Health Care

1. May accompany individuals to medical appointments; relays orders and information to and from medical providers as required. 

If assigned, accurately administers and documents delivery of medications and treatments; promptly reports administration errors; maintains appropriate security of controlled medications and other medications and supplies. If assigned, monitors individual’s health; documents health concerns; communicates with nurse or supervisor as appropriate; calls 911 in the event of emergency; follows individual health care directives.

Employment Responsibilities:

• Training: Supports and trains staff in implementing Individual Support Plans (i.e.: behavior intervention plans) and conducts classes and orientations as assigned. Attends staff meetings and interdisciplinary team meetings, as applicable.

Maintenance

1. May transport individuals into the community; drives safely and according to local laws; assures proper use of safety equipment including seat belts, lifts and wheelchair ties; reports accidents to appropriate authorities immediately; reports accidents and safety concerns immediately to supervisor or maintenance personnel. 

Checks water temperature as required when assisting with bathing; participates in safety drills and protects persons being served in the event of emergency.

Minimum Knowledge and Skills required by the Job

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required to perform the job:

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a human services field
• Two years related experience
• State or funder may have more stringent requirements including training in behavior modification techniques and prior behavior management experience.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations Required:

• Valid driver’s license in good standing.
• Car registration and vehicle insurance if providing transportation for individuals receiving services.
• All state-required training and certification completed in mandated timeframes.

Physical Requirements:

• Medium Work.  Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
