Responsibilities
- Provide evidence-based nursing care to emergency department patients from triage through discharge or admission
- Perform rapid assessment, prioritize care, and implement physician orders in high-acuity situations
- Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments safely and accurately
- Monitor and interpret vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and diagnostic results to guide interventions
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary teams on patient care plans
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up care
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic health record with accuracy and timeliness
- Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory standards at all times
- Precept and mentor newer nurses and support staff, contributing to a culture of learning
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute ideas to enhance patient outcomes
