Registered Nurse, PACU

Job Description

Sierra Medical Center seeks a skilled Registered Nurse for our PACU on a per diem basis. The RN provides post-anesthesia care for surgical patients, including continuous assessment, airway and hemodynamic monitoring, pain and nausea control, and safe transitions to the next level of care. The nurse will collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver patient-centered, high-quality care. Ideal candidates bring strong critical thinking, PACU or critical care experience, and a commitment to safety, compassion, and clinical excellence in a fast-paced acute care setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive post-anesthesia assessment and monitoring for surgical patients in the PACUManage airway, hemodynamic status, pain, and nausea to support safe recovery
  • Administer IV fluids, medications, and blood products per provider orders and protocols
  • Continuously evaluate patient status and respond promptly to changes or emergencies
  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the EHRCoordinate safe handoffs and transitions of care to inpatient units or discharge home
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the care team to optimize outcomes
  • Educate patients and families on post-operative expectations, pain control, and discharge instructions
  • Maintain infection prevention, safety, and regulatory standards in the PACUParticipate in ongoing education, skills development, and quality improvement initiatives
