Sutter West Bay Medical Group is seeking an accomplished Board-Certified Thoracic Surgeon to join our growing thoracic surgery program in the San Francisco Bay Area.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced thoracic surgeon with advanced expertise in robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) to help lead the continued growth and strategic development of a premier thoracic oncology program. The successful candidate will serve as a clinical leader, collaborating with multidisciplinary specialists to advance innovation, quality outcomes, and patient-centered care across our integrated healthcare system.

Position Responsibilities Clinical Excellence
  • Perform a broad spectrum of thoracic surgical procedures with a focus on:
    • Lobectomy
    • Segmentectomy
    • Lung-sparing resections
    • Complex chest wall procedures
  • Utilize advanced minimally invasive techniques, including robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) and VATS
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with benign and malignant thoracic conditions
  • Deliver evidence-based, patient-centered surgical care with an emphasis on clinical quality and outcomes
Program Development & Leadership
  • Help shape the vision and growth strategy for thoracic surgery services across the region
  • Lead efforts to expand robotic thoracic surgery capabilities and access
  • Develop and standardize clinical pathways to optimize patient outcomes and experience
  • Partner with operational and physician leadership to drive service-line growth and innovation
Multidisciplinary Thoracic Oncology Care
  • Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and case conferences
  • Collaborate closely with medical oncology, radiation oncology, pulmonology, radiology, pathology, and primary care physicians
  • Develop comprehensive treatment plans for patients with thoracic malignancies
  • Support seamless care coordination throughout the patient journey
Quality & Academic Engagement
  • Advance quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical excellence initiatives
  • Participate in peer review and performance improvement programs
  • Contribute to academic activities, physician education, and clinical research opportunities
  • Support the ongoing development of future physicians through mentorship and teaching
Call Responsibilities
  • Participate in an equitable call schedule
  • Provide inpatient consultation and emergency thoracic surgery coverage as needed
Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree
  • Completion of an accredited General Surgery residency
  • Completion of an accredited Thoracic or Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship
  • Board Certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery
  • Eligibility for an unrestricted California medical license
  • DEA registration and hospital privileging eligibility
Preferred Experience
  • 5+ years of attending-level thoracic surgery experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) and VATS
  • Proven success in building clinical programs and multidisciplinary partnerships
  • Experience in thoracic oncology program development and leadership strongly preferred

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation Range: $559,583 - $782,917 annually
