MCHC Health Centers seeks an Optometric Technician to support our optometrists in delivering high-quality, patient-centered eye care within our integrated community health clinics. In this role, you'll perform patient intake, histories, and pre-testing, including visual acuity, refraction pre-tests, tonometry, and imaging using modern diagnostic equipment. You'll accurately document in our EHR, prepare patients for exams, and help maintain exam rooms and instruments. As part of a collaborative, mission-driven team, you'll educate patients, support care coordination, and contribute to accessible, equitable vision care for diverse Northern California communities.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients, verify demographics, and obtain medical, vision, and medication histories
- Perform preliminary eye exams including visual acuity, refraction pre-testing, tonometry, and depth/color tests per protocol
- Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment such as autorefractors, retinal cameras, and OCT devices
- Document findings accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) and prepare charts for provider review
- Support optometrists during exams and procedures, ensuring smooth patient flow and room turnover
- Educate patients on eye health, medications, contact lens care, and follow-up instructions
- Follow infection control and safety protocols, including cleaning and calibrating optical equipment
- Coordinate referrals, authorizations, and follow-up appointments as needed
- Assist with ordering, stocking, and organizing exam rooms and optical supplies
- Contribute to team huddles, quality initiatives, and patient experience improvements in a community health setting
