Job Description
The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks a Medical Lab Technician III to perform advanced clinical laboratory testing in support of patient care, education, and research. The technician prepares and analyzes specimens, operates and maintains complex laboratory instruments, and ensures accurate, timely reporting of results. This role follows strict quality control, safety, and regulatory standards, troubleshoots testing issues, and supports test validation and process improvement. The technician collaborates with faculty, clinicians, and students in a teaching hospital environment, contributing to training and mentoring junior staff and learners.
Responsibilities
- Perform advanced clinical laboratory testing and report accurate, timely results.
- Prepare, label, and process patient specimens following strict protocols.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and analyzers.
- Perform and document quality control and quality assurance procedures.
- Troubleshoot testing and equipment issues and escalate as needed.
- Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, JCAHO, and MUSC policies.
- Maintain accurate records in the laboratory information system (LIS).
- Support validation of new tests, methods, and equipment.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, faculty, and students in a teaching environment.
- Assist with training and mentoring junior technicians and learners.
