Job Description
Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City is seeking a Registered Nurse for our Medical-Surgical unit. In this role, you will deliver compassionate, evidence-based care to adult patients with diverse and complex medical and post-surgical needs in a flagship tertiary care and teaching hospital. Responsibilities include comprehensive assessment, safe medication administration, monitoring and documentation, patient and family education, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team. You will support quality, safety, and infection prevention initiatives while mentoring learners and engaging in ongoing professional development in our mission-driven, patient-centered culture.
Responsibilities
- Provide evidence-based nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care plans
- Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely following hospital policies and provider orders
- Monitor and document patient status, vital signs, lab results, and responses to interventions using electronic health records
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate comprehensive care
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, procedures, and discharge instructions to support safe transitions of care
- Advocate for patient safety, comfort, and dignity while adhering to infection prevention and quality standards
- Participate in patient rounds, care conferences, and handoff reporting to ensure continuity of care
- Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and emergency situations, initiating appropriate interventions
- Precept and mentor new nurses and students, supporting a learning-oriented, teaching-hospital environment
- Engage in continuous professional development, evidence-based practice initiatives, and quality improvement projects
