Job Description
Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin seeks a Licensed Clinical Social Worker to support patients in Neurosciences & Neurosurgery. The LCSW provides comprehensive psychosocial assessments, counseling, and care coordination for patients and families facing complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions. This role collaborates closely with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to design holistic care plans, facilitate safe transitions of care, and connect patients with community and behavioral health resources. The LCSW will contribute to Dell Med's mission through participation in innovative care models, research, and quality improvement, while promoting health equity and culturally responsive care in a diverse, academic medical environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide psychosocial assessments and counseling to neurology and neurosurgery patients and families
- Coordinate care plans with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary care teams
- Support patients through diagnosis, treatment, and post-surgical recovery transitions
- Facilitate referrals to community resources, support services, and behavioral health programs
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic health record
- Participate in research, quality improvement, and innovative care initiatives within Dell Medical School
- Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and discharge planning as needed
- Educate patients and families on coping strategies, treatment adherence, and available resources
