NorTek Medical Staffing is seeking a confident and adaptable Emergency Medicine Physician for an ongoing locum tenens opportunity with a community hospital in Iowa.
This assignment is ideal for a physician who enjoys practicing independently in a genuinely low-volume emergency department while having access to hospitalist and telemedicine support. With approximately 5,000 annual emergency department visits an average of fewer than 14 patients per day the position offers a manageable clinical pace and flexible block scheduling.
Assignment Highlights
- Approximately 5,000 annual emergency department visits
- EPIC electronic medical record
- Primary shift: 7:30 AM 7:30 AM
- Most physicians work 24-hour shifts
- Opportunities for 36- or 48-hour blocks
- Twelve-hour shifts may be considered when scheduling permits
- Flexible scheduling based on physician availability
- APP hospitalists and telehospitalists support inpatient admissions
- Higher-acuity patients are transferred when appropriate
- Temporary privileges may be available
- Potential for ongoing coverage and a long-term relationship
Compensation and Engagement
- Competitive 1099 compensation open for discussion
- Compensation will be based on experience, availability, and schedule flexibility
- Time-and-a-half compensation for designated major holidays
- Additional shifts may be available
- Physicians are responsible for arranging and covering their own travel and lodging
- A potential W-2 pathway may be discussed with physicians interested in longer-term alignment
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
- Board-certified or board-eligible in:
- Emergency Medicine
- Internal Medicine
- Family Medicine
- Current or eligible Iowa medical license
- Comfortable practicing independently in a low-volume community emergency department
- Strong emergency assessment, stabilization, and clinical decision-making skills
- Ability to collaborate with hospitalists, advanced practice providers, nursing teams, telemedicine providers, and transfer centers
- Ability to complete hospital credentialing and privileging
Credentialing
- Estimated credentialing timeframe of two to three months
- Temporary privileges may be possible for qualified physicians
- Coverage dates can be structured around the physician s availability and credentialing completion
