We are seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner - Nocturnist to join our Critical Care Team at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital - a respected community teaching hospital serving northern Baltimore and the surrounding region. Our 17-bed mixed medical and surgical ICU provides APPs the opportunity to practice autonomously while collaborating closely with intensivists and a multidisciplinary care team to provide emergent care to critically ill patients, including leading Rapid Response and Code Blue teams. We foster a supportive and collaborative team environment and are seeking an APP who will actively participate in daily rounds, develop evidence-based plans of care, and provide critical care consultation for unstable patients throughout the hospital, including those requiring ICU transfer or escalation of care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing emergent and urgent care to patients in critical condition.
  • Performing histories and physical examinations of patients.
  • Establishing appropriate medical diagnoses based on patient history, chart review, physical exam, lab testing, and radiographic imaging.
  • Recommending, initiating, and managing appropriate therapeutic interventions for various pathologies, including respiratory failure, heart failure, shock, and acid-base disturbances.
  • Presenting patients on daily rounds with the ICU attending and multidisciplinary team.
  • Collaborating with all involved care teams, including other consultants.
  • Performing bedside procedures, including insertion of central venous, non-tunneled dialysis, and arterial catheters, as well as chest tubes and thoracentesis.
  • Communicating between healthcare professionals to promote safe patient transition between shifts, services, and/or levels of care.
  • Educating and supervising new graduate APPs and students where appropriate.

Schedule: Full time (147 shifts/year) with rotating shifts. Night coverage, weekends, and rotating holidays are required.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited physician assistant or acute care nurse practitioner program.
  • AGACNP (nurse practitioner) certification
  • BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • One year of critical care experience or in-patient hospital medicine is preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in advanced procedures. New graduates will be considered.

This position has a hiring range of:

$125,000 - $180,000
