JOB SUMMARY
The Technician - Turnover Team at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for transporting patients, specimens, and supplies, as well as assisting in maintaining a sterile and organized environment within the operating rooms. This position requires effective communication and coordination with physicians, nurses, and surgical team members, along with the ability to adapt to changing tasks and adhere to safety and aseptic techniques. The role demands physical stamina, attention to detail, and a positive attitude towards patients and colleagues.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Transporting Patients:
- Transports patients from nursing units to the holding preanesthesia unit ( PAU ).
- Assist the circulating nurse to transport patients from PAU to the O.R.
Transports Specimens:
- Transports specimens to the lab and delivers blood products from the blood bank to the O.R. according to established policies and procedures.
Transports Sterile Supplies/Equipment:
- Transports sterilized trays, instruments and equipment to assigned OR rooms as needed.
- Inspecting sterile package integrity, storage conditions and equipment for possible damage that would decrease its ability to perform needed functions.
Transports Potential Radioactive Supplies:
- Transports supplies and bio hazard trash to and from the appropriate area designed for radioactive contamination.
Environmental Duties:
- Assists in cleaning assigned OR rooms during the turn over process.
- Mopping floor, and/or wiping down surgical bed, equipment, including trash removal.
Assist OR Team:
- Assists OR team in preparing for surgical cases.
- Opens sterile supplies including disposables and surgical trays pertinent to OR procedure.
- Making O.R. bed.
- Positioning patient, holding extremities, setting up equipment to increase OR room utilization.
Monitor Traffic:
- Help limit traffic in and out of O.R. rooms to cut down potential contamination of sterile environment.
Shave Preps:
- Performs preoperative shave preps as needed, according to policy and procedure.
Education:
- Attends required in-services, annual review and educational programs /training.
Regulatory:
- Adheres to NMHS/NMMC Policies/Procedures/Guidelines.
- Complies with applicable Local/State/Federal policies/procedures/guideline/regulations/laws/statues.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent or equivalent. Required
Licenses and Certifications
CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation
Work Experience
Less than 1 year
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Good written and verbal communication required
Interaction with a patient population of all ages ranging from neonates to geriatrics, required
Plan and organizes operating room set up (including supplies, trays, and sterile processes)
Enhance utilization of operating room and decrease turn over times and to meet the needs of all customers
Must have integrity
Trusted to provide sterile supplies and quality patient care during surgical procedures
Must be able to function independently as well as within a group setting
Detailed oriented
Must have extensive contact with: physicians, nurses, surgical team members and patients
Must have good written and verbal communication skills
Must reflect a positive, caring attitude toward clients, patients, staff and the public we serve
