Position Overview
A federal healthcare facility in southwestern New Mexico is seeking an experienced OB/GYN physician to provide comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, surgical, and on-call coverage. The physician will collaborate with OB/GYN physicians, Certified Nurse Midwives, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, surgical teams, and consulting specialists.
Long-term providers are preferred; however, block schedules and shorter assignments may be considered.

Position Overview
A federal healthcare facility in southwestern New Mexico is seeking an experienced OB/GYN physician to provide comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, surgical, and on-call coverage. The physician will collaborate with OB/GYN physicians, Certified Nurse Midwives, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, surgical teams, and consulting specialists.
Long-term providers are preferred; however, block schedules and shorter assignments may be considered.
Compensation and Benefits
- Weekday clinic coverage: $240 per hour
- Weeknight callbacks: $240 per hour
- Weekend call coverage: $1,000 flat rate per 24-hour period
- Weekend callbacks: $240 per hour, in addition to the call rate
- Travel and lodging covered
- Medical malpractice insurance provided
- Approximately 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday
- Schedule includes clinic, operating room, administrative, and call responsibilities
- Clinic sessions:
- Morning: 8:30 AM 11:30 AM
- Afternoon: 12:30 PM 3:30 PM
- Approximately eight scheduled patients per half-day session
- At least one four-hour administrative session per week
- Two to three major operating-room days per month
- One to two minor-case operating-room days per month
- Schedule may vary depending on assignment length and departmental needs
- Approximately five to six 24-hour weekday calls per month
- One to two weekend calls per month
- Weekday call: 7:30 AM 7:30 AM
- Weekend call: Friday at 7:30 AM through Monday at 7:30 AM, shared between physicians
- In-house during regular weekday hours and home call after hours
- Weekend and holiday call generally taken from home
- Required response time:
- Within 10 minutes for emergencies
- Within 30 minutes for non-emergent emergency-department consultations
- Certified Nurse Midwives manage routine vaginal deliveries, with the OB/GYN physician providing backup, consultation, and surgical coverage
- Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient OB/GYN care
- Conduct examinations, diagnose conditions, and develop treatment plans
- Manage routine and high-risk obstetric patients within granted privileges
- Provide consultations for the emergency department, inpatient units, and outside facilities
- Support Labor and Delivery, including emergencies and cesarean sections
- Perform gynecologic procedures and surgeries
- Perform minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures
- Manage elective and emergent surgical cases
- Participate in rounding, discharge planning, peer review, and quality-improvement activities
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up care
- Maintain complete, timely, and accurate electronic medical records
- Follow facility policies, federal requirements, and nationally recognized standards of care
- Approximately deliveries annually
- Approximately deliveries per month
- Approximately cesarean sections annually
- Four labor rooms and five postpartum rooms
- Level I nursery
- Level III trauma setting
- Anesthesia coverage available 24/7
- Referral relationships with Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, and Urogynecology specialists
- Collaborative support from physicians, Certified Nurse Midwives, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, nursing assistants, scrub technicians, and medical secretaries
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited Obstetrics and Gynecology residency
- Minimum of 24 months of recent OB/GYN experience
- Current, valid, unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory
- Board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology preferred or required based on credentialing
- Current BLS or ACLS certification
- Competency in inpatient, outpatient, surgical, and emergency OB/GYN care
- Ability to obtain and maintain facility privileges
- Ability to complete credentialing, background screening, health, and immunization requirements
- Basic computer and electronic health record skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Full-scope OB/GYN participation is required; clinic-only candidates cannot be accepted
- No on-campus housing is available
- Local rentals are limited; many locum providers stay in nearby hotels
- Facility equipment, clinical space, required PPE, orientation, and system training are provided
