EVS Technician - Lead - Full Time / Variable

Job Description

We’re looking for a reliable, detail-oriented individual to join our EVS team and help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

The EVS Technician - Lead supports the EVS Manager by coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Environmental Services department to ensure a clean, safe, and compliant healthcare environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This position provides frontline leadership, staff training, quality oversight, and operational support while promoting exceptional customer service, regulatory compliance, continuous improvement, and a positive team culture.

  • Location: Anacortes, WA
  • Schedule: Full Time / 40 hours per week
  • Salary Range: $19.37 – $28.78 per hour
    • Night Differential - $2.25
    • Evening Differential - $1.65
    • Weekend Differential - $1.50

What you will be doing:

Operations:

  • Cleans patient rooms, OR suites, Recovery area, offices and clinics, including but not limited to cleaning and disinfecting the bed, cleaning and disinfecting other furniture, counters, sinks, toilets and other fixtures.
  • Replaces cubicle curtains and drapes in patient care areas.
  • Establishes goals for department and identifies tactics for staff to effectively reach goals.
  • Ensures all equipment is in good working repair and conducts in-services on equipment with staff members.
  • Regularly reviews and updates cleaning procedures and task lists as needed.
  • Performs daily walk-throughs of the facility to evaluate cleanliness and safety standards. Addresses identified issues promptly and escalates concerns, as appropriate.
  • Inventories and orders supplies, and equipment and evaluates new products, equipment, cleaning instruments, agents, and methods while remaining within budgetary guidelines.
  • In collaboration with EVS team members, follows up on all complaints to ensure all requests are addressed thoroughly and in a timely manner.
  • Manages and reviews the waste manifest logs per Washington State/DOT regulations.

Personnel:

  • Supports the EVS Manager by coordinating daily workflow, providing frontline guidance to EVS personnel, and reinforcing the Island Health Promise through positive role modeling, collaboration, and staff support.
  • Assists with employee training and orientation for all new employees.
  • Provides employee support and conflict resolution to create and maintain a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment that promotes engagement and accountability.
  • Assists with monthly department schedule incorporating time-off and leave requests ensuring that all budgetary and FTE guidelines are met.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility to work various shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as operational needs require.
  • Maintains regular attendance in accordance with organizational policy and applicable laws and uses leave benefits appropriately.

Additional Duties:

  • Gives input to the Manager in the development of the annual budget.
  • Serves as the organization-wide Super-User for the SDS Hazardous Chemical Program.
  • Provides leadership in compliance with applicable requirements as set by DNV, DOH, DOE and all other state/federal guidelines.
  • Attends meetings as requested by the EVS Manager.
  • Is able to perform all duties required of the EVS department in order to provide training, support, feedback and in emergency circumstances, fill in to ensure the work is completed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you will bring to the role:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible environmental services experience, including demonstrated leadership responsibilities.
  • Previous lead or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and fosters positive working relationships within a respectful, collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to work independently, organize own schedule and make independent decisions.
  • Ability to motivate others, provide constructive feedback as well as recognition and encourage teamwork.
  • Skills in prioritizing and organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, Publisher, Powerpoint, Excel and Visio.
