Job Summary

The Imaging Aide supports the daily operations of the diagnostic imaging department by assisting imaging staff with patient preparation, patient transport, equipment setup, and general department workflow. This role provides non-technical support to technologists and clinical staff to ensure efficient patient flow, safe patient handling, and a positive patient experience. Imaging Aides may support multiple imaging modalities depending on departmental needs and facility operations.

Essential Functions

  • Assists with preparing patients for imaging procedures, including escorting patients to and from the imaging department.

  • Transports patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or hospital bed while following established safety and patient transport protocols.

  • Assists technologists with patient positioning and comfort as directed.

  • Provides basic patient instructions and supports communication during preparation for procedures.

  • Supports technologists and imaging staff with non-technical aspects of imaging procedures.

  • Prepares procedure rooms and imaging areas for patient use.

  • Assists with patient flow coordination to support efficient scheduling and patient throughput.

  • Communicates patient status updates to imaging staff as needed.

  • Assists with setting up imaging rooms and equipment prior to procedures under technologist supervision.

  • Cleans and prepares imaging equipment, stretchers, and exam rooms between patients in accordance with infection control standards.

  • Stocks linens, supplies, and other departmental materials.

  • Reports equipment issues or safety concerns to appropriate staff.

  • Assists patients with changing into appropriate attire for imaging procedures.

  • Helps maintain patient privacy, dignity, and comfort throughout the imaging visit.

  • Observes patients for signs of distress and promptly reports concerns to clinical staff.

  • Assists with clerical tasks such as patient check-in support, record preparation, or document delivery as needed.

  • Ensures patient identification and documentation processes are followed according to departmental procedures.

  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe environment in imaging work areas.

  • Follows infection prevention, radiation safety, and hospital safety policies.

  • Participates in departmental safety and quality initiatives.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent, including education equivalent to completion of secondary school or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role. (Preferred)

Licenses/Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BCLS). (Required upon hire or within facility-specified timeframe)

Experience

  • Prior healthcare, patient transport, or clinical support experience. (Preferred)

  • Prior experience working in a hospital or imaging environment. (Preferred)
