General Description:
The Outpatient Pharmacy Technician II is a mid‑level role responsible for performing a broad range of pharmacy technician duties involved in the preparation and distribution of medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This role demonstrates increasing independence, supports daily workflow continuity, and serves as a resource and mentor to Pharmacy Technician I staff.
Essential Responsibilities:

Performs intermediate clerical and data-entry responsibilities, including complex adjudications, detailed patient profile management, and efficient phone triage.
Independently navigates copay assistance and grant programs to resolve common patient affordability barriers and provides guidance to Technician I staff.
Independently retrieves, prepares, and labels prescriptions with a high level of accuracy, supporting efficient workflow during peak operational periods.
Performs inventory control activities including monitoring, pricing, dating, invoicing, stocking the pharmacy, and assisting with preparation of purchase orders.
Performs billing, posting, and accounts receivable functions with increasing independence, resolving moderate reimbursement issues and supporting operational continuity.
Models proper maintenance of a clean, organized, and orderly pharmacy environment.
Models compliance with safety standards and procedures, consistently identifying and reporting safety concerns.
Stores and preserves biologicals, vaccines, serums, and other medications subject to deterioration using appropriate refrigeration and storage methods.
Independently resolves most third‑party claim rejections, initiates and tracks prior authorizations, and assists Technician I staff with more complex claim issues.
Demonstrates working knowledge of OUH’s patient assistance programs and traditional copay assistance workflows.
Demonstrates a working understanding of 340B program requirements and processes.
Assists with medication therapy management (MTM) documentation or workflows as directed.
Completes annual skills assessments and competency validations successfully.
Assists with onboarding and training of Technician I staff by demonstrating proper procedures and reinforcing workflow and safety expectations.
Identifies workflow inefficiencies or improvement opportunities and collaborates with leadership to explore potential enhancements.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Experience: At least three (3) years of experience as a pharmacy technician required.
License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Active permit as a Pharmacy Technician by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy within 6 weeks of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficient cash handling skills.
Proficient computer and math skills relevant to pharmacy operations.
Strong attention to detail to ensure data accuracy.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to interpret and apply written procedures and policies.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Strong customer service orientation.
Ability to build effective working relationships and support collaborative team environments.
